Over the past decade, the City of Split and the University of Split have hosted five different EUSA events. Without exaggeration, the feedback from these events has been overwhelmingly positive. Through innovation, attention to detail, and a strong sense of legacy, Split and its University have established themselves as reliable partners of EUSA, known for delivering events of the highest standard.
If you walk along the Western Riva toward the ACI Marina, you can trace some of the most beautiful and glorious stories of Croatian and world sport, told in chronological order. Since the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, Split has become the city with the most Olympic medals per capita in the world—a fact that perfectly reflects the city’s DNA and spirit. Split is a city that understands, lives, and loves sport.
Following the hosting of the 2016 European Universities Games in Zagreb and Rijeka, student sport in Croatia took a major step forward, setting new standards for university competitions. The proposed sports programme aims to uphold and raise these organizational standards—not only for 2028 but also in the years leading up to the event. The ultimate goal is to maintain, beyond 2028, the high level of excellence that the Games will undoubtedly bring to Split and Croatia.
According to current plans, the sports programme is planned to include 24 sports and one sport for athletes with disabilities, featuring approximately 6,009 participants. The compulsory sports are futsal, basketball, football, tennis, table tennis, badminton, 3x3 basketball, beach handball, beach volleyball, volleyball, handball, and rowing.
In cooperation with national and local sports federations, clubs, and using the city’s and University’s infrastructure that meet all technical standards, each venue will be prepared to the highest possible level.
Perhaps most satisfying is the legacy created through both new and refurbished sports infrastructure. The area spanning from Trogir to Split, Sinj, Trilj, and Omiš already offers more than enough high-quality sports facilities. EUSA Technical Delegates will have a wide selection of venues to choose from, ensuring each meets their specific requirements.
